SeaTac Solar (a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources) submitted a request to build a massive, standalone lithium-ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility on Hess Road (between State Route 19 and the former I-86 Repair site).
The Legal Gap: The Town of Angelica's 180-day moratorium on energy storage projects has expired, and the town has not had an active Planning Board since 2006. With no permanent BESS local zoning laws finalized, the town lacks immediate legal mechanisms to pause the project. We need to make stronger zoning requirements, tier 1,2,3 permits and regulations!
Community Concerns: Local residents have organized heavy pushback, highlighting safety risks to local volunteer fire departments, potential toxic runoff into water tables, and threats to local wildlife (specifically active bald eagle nests along the Hess Road corridor). We dont want the facility! The batteries can simultaneously combust for no reason, have thermal runaway and release hazardous chemicals. What will this do to our ground and ground water!
We say no to chemicals, and hazards.
This is not a public utility and has no benefit to us!

A citizens' petition demanding a full environmental and safety study is heavily circulating. We want strict regulations and zoning. We want BESS kept out
