🚨 Please share.

Many residents are unaware that this project is being considered, and now is the time to learn about it, ask questions, and get involved.

Have you heard about the proposed Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility on Hess Road in Angelica?

Many residents are just learning about this project, and I wanted to share information so our community can become informed and discuss what, if anything, can be done moving forward.

A BESS facility is a large-scale battery storage site that stores electricity, often from solar or wind projects, and releases it back to the grid when needed. While supporters point to benefits for energy reliability, many residents have concerns about the potential impacts on our rural community.

Some concerns that have been raised include:

• The risk of battery fires and the challenges of extinguishing lithium-ion battery fires.

• Potential impacts to groundwater, streams, and wildlife if a fire or equipment failure were to occur.

• Increased industrial development in an area known for its natural beauty, outdoor recreation, hunting, fishing, and tourism.

• The possibility that approval of one project could make it easier for additional large-scale energy projects to follow in the future.

*Impact on wildlife and ecosystem.  Also Eagles Nests

Many people choose to live here because of the beauty of the Allegany Wilds—our forests, open spaces, wildlife, and the quiet character of our community. These natural resources are part of what makes our area special and attract visitors and outdoor enthusiasts year after year.

I'm sharing this not to create fear, but to encourage awareness, discussion, and community involvement. What options do residents have? Can county or state officials help? Are there meetings we should attend? What steps can our town take to better protect our community and environment?

If you care about the future of Angelica and the Allegany Wilds, please take a few minutes to read the article in the comments, learn more about the proposal, and share this post so others are aware. If you have information about upcoming meetings, contacts, or ways residents can become involved, please share them below.

An informed community has a stronger voice than a silent one.
