We can’t sell Italy: Budelli Island should be a public heritage
Il problema
In early October, the “Pink Beach” and the whole Budelli Island, one of the most popular symbols of “Arcipelago di La Maddalena” National Park in Sardinia (Italy), were sold to the banker Michael Harte for 2,940,000 euros (two million, nine hundred fourty thousand euros).
A ridiculously low price for an island of 1.6 square kilometers (about 0.6 square miles) with over 12 kilometers of coastline (about 7.5 miles).
“La Maddalena” National Park, according to the Italian Framework Law on Protected Areas (Lgs. D. no 394/91), may exercise, within 90 days, the right of pre-emption and buy the island at the same amount offered by Mr. Harte.
I am asking to the National Park of “La Maddalena” to exercise its right of pre-emption in order to acquire Budelli Island to the public heritage.
