Dear Members,
I hope each and everyone of you are doing okay. Now that we're living in a post-pandemic society, a lot has changed including the world of activism.
It's been 3 years that Kholod Almousa has not been heard from or found. For those who have just joined us in this campaign, Kholod is a young Saudi Arabian women whom this petition was initially started for.
She was severely abused by 13 of her siblings (8 brothers, 5 sisters) which prompted her to plan an escape and run away from home in 2018. Kholod communicated all her details of escape to me but unfortunately the last thing she said to before she disappeared was, "If you never hear from again, I'm either dead or in Dar Al Reaya"
There are clues that signal that Kholod's family might have caught up to her whilst she was on the run for help. She wanted to flee to her Uncle because she seemed to have trusted him however it seems her uncle had informed Kholod's siblings of her whereabouts which resulted in Kholod getting caught.
Kholod once told me that if she were not be found or heard of again, she would have loved for me as her close friend to share her story with the world. She wanted the world to know how Saudi Arabia failed women like her when it came to justice.
This was a young woman in her mid-20s who aspired to be a lawyer so that she could help others like her. All she ever wanted was an education and a happiness she knew she was deserving of. All this was taken away from her by people she thought were her family and a country that claims to be wealthy in all aspects, yet that wealth seems to lack in the way they treat their own people.
There are so many women like Kholod in Saudi Arabia, many whose blood scream from their graves. We are all fooled into believing that the country is making progressive change when really they are only showing you what they choose to show you.
They don't show you the likes of Kholod having to fear asking for help from the police because police don't take a woman's word for what it's worth when she speaks about her abuse.
They don't show you the men who believe women can be purchased like cattle for the purposes of forced marriages.
They don't show you all the honour killings or the activists who are today rotting in jail because they stood against royal tyrants.
The reason why I have not closed this campaign despite the years that have passed is because I don't want the memory of Kholod Almousa to die down, whether she's dead or alive. I want this campaign to be a voice for women like Kholod who feel like they are not heard or seen.
As I've said alot has changed in our society and everything seems to be getting heavier by the day. However, change can still happen as long as we continue.
