To Any and All it May Concern at Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), 

Very tragically, 19 young, elementary students and two of their teachers have been brutally murdered in Texas by a gunman. This is just the latest school shooting in a long line of school shootings in our country- 2,032 since 1970 (source: https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/blog/gun-violence/16-facts-about-gun-violence-and-school-shootings/ ). The fear and paranoia of sending your children to school is not an irrational fear, it is a cruel reality. Mass shootings have now become more and more prevalent, especially in the school systems. There is certainly not enough being done to protect our children and teachers from these real threats. It is time to stand up and demand that safety be the number one priority of our students and ensure that our school system is doing everything in their power to create the safest possible environment for all students, teachers and faculty. 

I am creating this petition to implement additional security measures in all Wake County schools, primarily armed active duty police or school resource officers whose sole responsibility would be to protect our schools at all times.

In addition, adding door locks/jams to all interior classroom doors (such as RhinoSEC https://www.rhinosec.us or Night Lock https://nightlock.com/door-security-devices/door-barricade/nightlock-lockdown/ and increased safeguards in and out of buildings, in addition to any and all other enhanced safety features that may be available or possible. 

Rest In Peace to all of the innocent children and brave adults who lost their lives. This is not meant to be politically charged, this is only about protecting our precious children and invaluable teachers.
