This petition calls on Chris McCune, current West Chester Area School District Board President to officially withdraw his candidacy for School Board re-election from the ballot no later than Monday, August 9, 2021, by 4:30pm. This is the last day that Chester County Voter Services will accept a voluntary withdrawal from the ballot. WCASD and local residents have been angered and humiliated by Mr. McCune’s recent behavior, resulting in coverage by the following national and local news outlets: Fox and Friends, Glenn Beck, National Review, New York Post, Chris Stigall Show, and Dom Giordano Show. President McCune physically and verbally intimidated an immigrant parent who questioned him and the Superintendent about what was happening in the district. While she exceeded her allotted two-minute time limit, there were other parents who also exceeded their time, and President McCune did not leave the stage to remove the microphone. President McCune has demonstrated poor leadership and disdain for parents and the community in the following ways:

·       Made a statement in an email that “public education is a privilege, not a right” which is in direct violation of the Pennsylvania Public School Code.

·       Physically and verbally bullied an immigrant parent.

·       Condoned censorship of resident comments during virtual School Board meetings.

·       When asked to resign from office, he refused and issued a half-hearted apology.

·       Failed to listen and respond to the parent survey administered in July 2020 where 80% of parents stated that they wanted some level of in-person instruction for their children. President McCune voted to keep schools closed for the start of the 2020-2021 school year and voted to not fully reopen schools for an entire calendar year.

As concerned citizens of the West Chester Area School District, we demand that President McCune voluntarily withdraws his candidacy for re-election by August 9, 2021. If he fails to withdraw, residents are prepared to begin legal proceedings to recall EVERY current School Board member due to their support of President McCune’s reprehensible behavior.
