The vast shelter intake, impoundment trauma and carnage of dogs and cats in the U.S. are almost universally attributed to irresponsible pet owners, or “IPO’s”.  In recognition of this, the Humane Society of the U.S. developed its ‘Pets for Life’ program and also has developed humane education resources for students in Pre-K, kindergarten and various groupings among grades 1 through 12.   

This petition urges the HSUS to recognize the widespread and absolutely explosive growth of smartphone use by commissioning development of a world-class downloadable ‘app’ for Responsible Pet Ownership.

While a number of web sites address responsible pet ownership, smartphones are increasingly “in vogue”, convenient and always ‘with’ the user.   Perhaps even more importantly, they are especially popular with age groups most interested in acquiring pets, i.e. those also at highest risk of becoming “IPO’s”.

Please couple this smartphone application with your Pets for Life program and greatly enhance the critically important campaigns against irresponsible pet ownership and animal abuse/cruelty.
