As many of you know several Kentucky legislators are fighting to strip and or restrict our second amendment rights with several new proposed bills including red flag laws, a proposed “assault weapon” ban and the repeal of the permitless carry law that allows law abiding citizens to carry firearms without a permit. 

Our neighboring state of Virginia is going through this as well due to a change in the legislator, many local governments and sheriffs offices have been declaring themselves as second amendment sanctuaries and vowing to not not enforce any gun laws that restrict the rights of the citizens. 

The purpose of this petition is to get the word out and to rally support to make Monticello/Wayne county the first place in Kentucky to adopt this as a proactive statues.

Several other states including our neighbors Virginia, Tennessee and Illinois and 20 more states have state or local governments that have enacted similar measures. 

While being a local 2a sanctuary will not protect us from the state and federal enforcement of any gun laws it will show them how we feel about the issues and will protect us from local enforcement of un constitutional laws. 

Below is a small definition of what a 2a sanctuary is and what we hope to accomplish. 

Second Amendment sanctuary refers to resolutions adopted by some jurisdictions in the United States to not expend resources to enforce certain gun control measures perceived as violative of the Second Amendment. The resolutions oppose enforcement of universal gun background checks, high capacity magazine bans, assault weapon bans, red flag laws, and more.
