Greetings petition signers, As many of you have heard already, the Joint Review Board approved the TIF on a 3-1 vote late last month, opening the first door for the Wall project. Now, the village is attempting to open another: increasing the downtown building height limit to 55 feet, which is intended for Hovde, but could impact the Wall project in a major way. As stated in a Tribune Letter to the Editor written by Mr. Gerry Ashmore, the proposed Hovde building height would be four feet higher than the old St. John's Church roofline and four feet lower than the new church roofline. This is a direct violation of the one year-old Comprehensive Plan, which states that "the C1D district should encourage two-story development and that the village should remain rural in character." This four-story, 101-unit apartment building does not meet either of those standards, not to mention the fact that an ordinance involving the density/number of apartments on the site would be violated. If you want to preserve the central core of our community and prevent it from becoming full of high rises, attend tomorrow (Monday) evening's special Village Board public hearing at 5 pm at Village Hall specifically on this matter, which will then be followed by a Plan Commission meeting relating to approving/denying the height amendment for the Hovde building. There is also a proposal for annexing property at the southeast corner of Century Avenue and Woodland Drive for commercial use, and a 130 acre annexation proposal from Don Tierney on the opposite side of Century for another unnecessary high-end housing development. These proposals will also be on the agenda for the Joint Plan Commission meeting (Tuesday night at 6 pm; Westport Town Hall). The future of our beloved community and township around it is at stake. Please attend these meetings if you can do so. Help prevent the destruction of our central business district and additional high-end housing developments.
