Greetings community members, We have suffered a setback that could very well result in the Wall project being approved. At Monday’s Plan Commission Meeting, the citizens who own the rental properties in question expressed high interest in having their properties included in the TIF district, which will result in the six Second Street houses being opened for Mr. Wall’s development. The Plan Commission voted unanimously to put the six homes back in the district, effectively restarting Mr. Wall’s plan of displacing local businesses and destroying historic structures and affordable housing. Many of the commissioners reversed their opinions from the previous meeting, voting in favor of Mr. Wall, who was in attendance, and the rental property owners. As a result, the Village Board meeting (next Monday night (Feb. 5th), 6pm; Village Hall) is crucial to blocking the Wall project and continuing the goals of our organization. We have contacted several community members in hopes that we will have members present at Monday’s meeting. We are in the process of contacting residents who can speak before the board as well. Please reach out to your neighbors, friends, and colleagues in the community to attend this pivotal meeting. The future of our historic downtown and the Wall development rests on this very meeting. We hope to fill the board room with as many people as we can get. By attending this meeting, you will be contributing your concerns to a critical decision that will affect our community in the coming months, years, and decades. Note: This is not the final approval of the TIF (will go to Board of Review next at TBD date). It is simply a recommendation for approval, as was the "approval" at the Plan Commission meeting.
