Please Allow Wombat Mange Treatment at Bendeela Campground

Please Allow Wombat Mange Treatment at Bendeela Campground
The issue
Did you know that 14 wombats were deliberately killed at Bendeela Campground in Kangaroo Valley NSW recently? Drunk campers deliberately ran over and ruthlessly killed these amazing native to Australia animals, many of which were mothers with babies.
Since then nothing has happened to prevent this happening again. There are no signs educating the public about wombats and about applicable fines for harming wildlife. There are also no wildlife rescue group phone numbers clearly visible to campers.
An even worse problem is that Wombats in this area suffer from sacroptic mange. It is a highly contagious skin disease caused by the sarcoptes crabiei mite. These mites will burrow through the skin causing intense itching an irritation. It leaves the animal deaf and blind, and eventually leads to its death.
Researchers warn that mange may eventually lead to local extinctions if untreated.
Bendeela campground is under the jurisdiction of Water NSW which doesn't allow treatment of wombats in this area. Local wildlife rescue groups were negotiating with WaterNSW but with no effect. Promises were made by Water NSW but no actions have been taken for over a year now!
Time is running out for these animals and treatment needs to commence as soon as possible before it's too late.
Bendeela Camping grounds are highly popular among campers, especially in the Spring/Summer season. People come to visit this area mainly because of the native wildlife they can see there. Seeing sick animals is terrifying and painful for people who love nature. The Wombat population at Bendeela should remain healthy for future generations to see.
We are not activists. We just represent people who care for wildlife and want to see these animals healthy and happy, not sick and threatened with extinction.
We are asking Water NSW to reconsider their decision and let qualified people take care of these beautiful and amazing animals. Native wildlife is part of Australia and it one of the reasons why this country is so amazing. ACTION NEEDS TO BE TAKEN NOW!
Please sign our petition to Water NSW to allow the Wombat Protection Society and local wildlife rescue groups to treat wombats at Bendeela Camping grounds.
