Washington State University has announced three weeks before move-in day that the 2020 Fall semester will be delivered remotely. The astounding majority of students are forced to stay at their place of primary residence and will not be using campus services or resources.

The university has announced that not only will tuition remain the same, but students not qualifying for residency in the state of Washington will still be charged out of state fees-roughly an additional $8,000 a semester. 

The incredibly late notice has created financial hardship for thousands of students and their families. Many students have signed legally binding leases for apartments in Pullman, flights and hotels have been booked, and a majority of classes at local community colleges have filled up, forcing students wishing to continue their education this fall to do so with the university for an outrageous price. 

We call for Washington State University to lower tuition and abolish the fees for out of state students during semesters where education will be done using the online distance learning model.
