The Issue

Traffic Cameras in the DMV Area are moved around atleast twice a week. The state has doubled the amount of traffic cameras and speed cameras to increase revenue. We are in the middle of a pandemic and the ticket prices are TOO high and so obvious that the state is trying to gain money and take advantage of good citizens and struggling individuals.
Some tickets are $400 , Some cameras have NOT been fixed when the digital speed moniters say the wrong numbers and glitch or flash inaccurately. Some streets will continuously flash for turning the corner when the light is green and should NOT be penalized.

Washington D.C. , The District of Columbia has this problem the most and increased the amount of cameras on highways, school zones, streets, and even neighborhoods. There are just too many and the speed changes often. When the state decided to move these cameras, they do not remove the speed limit physical SIGN which will state a different speed. Or the zones switch within a 1 mile radius which is confusing to drivers who know the area and are used to a flow of traffic before they changed the cameras. New comers to the area are left even more confused trying to navigate through difficult streets and now keep up with different speed limits and signs. The Map Apps warn people when a camera comes up but the state continues to move the camera and not update other information about what the limit is in attempt to gain more money.

This causes accidents on the road as drivers are trying to stay safe and follow the rules, it creates road rage and makes people think they have to drive faster to avoid cars which are too slow or Stop in the middle of the road because if you stop you are bound to cause an accidents. Washington D.C. has the most reported accidents right now. They have so many that they stopped reporting them all or don’t arrive on scene.

The online statistics are NOT accurate because most of the crimes or accidents go unreported in D.C. First Responders do not come on the scene in some areas and people know to take matters into their own hands as the people we are supposed to have help us are not help at all. They are worse. There are far worse crimes than stopping cars on the side of the road and banging on their doors holding weapons, threatening to shoot, calling backup , for drivers. These are CIVIL issues and scared police officers need more training as the first response should not be to reach for a weapon when they feel threatened. Walking up to another person’s vehicle banging on the door, forcing people out of the car for MINOR issues is cruel and the CITIZENS should be the ones in fear not the men holding weapons. There are REAL criminals out here and numerous unsolved cases the state should worry about instead of taking advantage of street cameras.

Having double cars patrol the same streets and trying to collect as many tickets as possible is so harmful to ordinary people. Even women have been targeted by officers in uncalled for manners such as drawing weapons, calling backup, threatening to break windows, after realizing there is only one female in a car. They even scream at the women. As a community we don’t blame men for running from the police as much because officers see people that appear suspicious and draw weapons. We would rather see our community live than die over traffic. The traffic laws need to be inforced less.

Areas around Annapolis, Odenton, Virginia, Bowie, and low populated areas barely have cameras. So it gives off the appeal of discrimination to poor communities that are overly populated and being targetted. The state could use the money from paying workers to move the cameras twice a week and help improve the health of the world right now. We need the money to be distributed to something else besides speed cameras. And to lower the fines of speeding tickets. There is no reason so many people are facing the same issues.
