OUR CHILDREN DESERVE A SAFE WAY HOME.

Washington County, Tennessee’s current school bus policy is creating a HUGE problem for working families, and it’s time for our voices to be heard.

Parents are being told that their children cannot ride the bus to an alternative address, even when that address is already on the bus route.

We are NOT asking buses to make special stops.

We are NOT asking them to drive outside the school zone.

We are NOT asking for something unreasonable.

👉 We are asking that children be allowed to get off at a safe location that the bus already travels to.

For many families, this isn’t just an inconvenience. It affects whether parents can work.

Some parents depend on grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, or other trusted family members to keep their children safe while they are at work. That arrangement works — until the child is no longer allowed to ride the bus to that location.

Now what happens?

That family member or friend may have to leave work to pick the child up.

They may already have children of their own riding the bus and have to make multiple trips to the school.

Parents may have to go into work late.

Parents may have to leave work early.

Parents may have to pay for before- or after-school care they simply cannot afford.

And some parents are put in the position of risking their job just to make sure their child gets home safely.

💔 This puts an unnecessary strain on parents, grandparents, family members, friends, and entire families.

🏫 WHAT ABOUT SCHOOL CHOICE?

Parents choose for their children to attend schools outside of their assigned zone for a reason.

Maybe their child is comfortable there.

Maybe they are thriving there.

Maybe they have friends, teachers, programs, or support systems that are important to them.

Why should a child have to leave a school where they are happy, comfortable, and succeeding simply because of a bus policy that could be changed?

There should be a way to make this work.

If a child has permission to attend that school, and there is already a bus traveling to a safe location on that route, why can’t that child ride the bus?

🚌 WE ARE ASKING WASHINGTON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, TO RECONSIDER THIS POLICY.

Allow children to ride to an approved alternative address when that location is already on an established bus route.

Give parents reasonable options.

Consider the realities working families face every single day.

And most importantly, put the needs and safety of the children first.

These aren’t just bus stops.

These are parents trying to keep their jobs.

Grandparents trying to help their families.

Friends and family members trying to provide childcare.

And children who simply need a safe, reliable way home from school.

ALL THESE KIDS WANT TO DO IS GO TO SCHOOL. ❤️

Let’s not make transportation the reason a child has to leave a school where they are comfortable and thriving.
