The statement copied above was Tweeted recently by the new CEO of the Woodland Trust. Wise words indeed!
Warwickshire Wildlife Trust are celebrating their 50th anniversary on Tuesday and we applaud all the good things they have done in that time.
We are sure they will be telling members that they have recently been given custody of a new reserve, Brandon Reach. An area that has been naturalising for many years and with minimum intervention will continue to do so. You can now walk from their head quarters and end up in Piles Coppice, reported to be the most important and, we believe, the most beautiful ancient woodland in the Midlands.
The best way they can possibly celebrate is by telling concerned members and the local community that they have listened to them and that this treasure will be left untouched so that nature can continue looking after it as she has done so successfully for very many years.
Dr Moorcroft also wrote, in a letter to The Times, that 'we need to protect the trees we already have' …. 'to realise the huge benefits they can provide to nature, climate and people'
Preserving the trees and habitat in our ancient woodlands, particularly urban ones like Piles Coppice, has never been more important.
