Increase Daniel Crowley's Sentence to a More Appropriate Punishment

Increase Daniel Crowley's Sentence to a More Appropriate Punishment

The Issue

Daniel Crowley, a convicted sex offender, recently pleaded guilty to three offences of "making indecent images of children."

In a victim impact statement, the mother of one of Crowley's victims said:

"You have stolen the daughter I had, slowly and systematically. She has shut down from all she enjoyed, and she has also been self-harming because of the torment you put her through."

According to the Leamington Observer, despite his sex offences at 15–16 involving children between 13 and 15:

"Judge Sylvia de Bertodano gave him a three-year community order. Under the order, he has to take part in a sex offender programme and a rehabilitation activity for a total of 100 days, and also register as a sex offender for five years."

As a young adult, the leniency of his sentence does not does not offer a strong enough deterrent. It sets a precedent that others may repeat his perversions and only receive insignificant consequence which does not match the actions' severity. Based on this, we suggest his sentence be increased to at least two years of prison time.
