Petition by the people of Warrington for the leader of the council to resign.

Petition by the people of Warrington for the leader of the council to resign.

The Issue

A petition from the people of Warrington, for the leader of the council, Russ Bowden,  to resign his position.
He is the leader of Warrington Borough Council,  which has brought National shame to our town.

The council have asked Cheshire police to investigate the attendance, at the town centre Cenotaph, on Remembrance Sunday 2020, various people who wished to pay their private respects to the town’s fallen.
Their motives for doing so are unclear, although they appear to be politically motivated. Russ Bowden himself was in attendance, alongside the deputy leader Cathy Mitchell. The Mayor of Warrington also laid a wreath as did serving police officers. But as leader of the council, Russ Bowden is ultimately responsible for any actions the council may take.

Warrington Borough Council’s Code of Conduct for members, states that councillors and officials should act with Integrity, objectivity, selflessness and with respect for others. These codes have been broken.

Most worryingly, their actions have resulted in much respected members of the community being questioned by police, placing them under undue stress totally unnecessarily, leaving them feeling victimised and traumatised. This again breaches the code of conduct for members which states that you must not bully or harass any members of the public, nor make trivial or malicious complaints.

As leader of the council, Russ Bowden is responsible for these actions, regardless of who filed the actual complaint to Cheshire Police.

They have brought shame and embarrassment to our town, attempting to use Remembrance Sunday and the memories of the town’s fallen for their own political gain.

As leader, Russ Bowden must resign.
