Warren County Virginia: No Data Center Takeover
The Issue
Front Royal and Warren County are facing proposed planning and zoning changes that could open the door to large-scale data center development. These decisions could permanently affect our water resources, power grid, land use, public costs, and overall quality of life.
My family lives near the proposed data center areas. These facilities could surround nearby neighborhoods and sit dangerously close to the Shenandoah River, a vital resource our families, farms, wildlife, and local economy all depend on.
This is not responsible growth. Data centers require massive amounts of electricity, significant water usage, backup generators, utility upgrades, and public infrastructure support. They can also create noise, runoff concerns, and long-term pressure on our water and power systems.
After years of drought and local water restrictions, we believe Warren County and Front Royal should not approve these zoning changes without full transparency regarding water use, power demand, cooling methods, infrastructure costs, tax incentives, projected revenue, and the number of permanent local jobs.
We urge the Front Royal Town Council and the Warren County Board of Supervisors to vote NO on any zoning amendments that would allow or expand data center development in our community.
Instead, Front Royal and Warren County should focus on supporting small businesses, local employers, conservation, tourism, agriculture, and responsible industries that strengthen our community without sacrificing our water, land, and future.
Residents should take action now. Attend the public hearings. Submit written comments for the official record. Speak respectfully during public comment periods. Let our local officials know that we oppose these zoning changes and do not support allowing data centers in Front Royal or Warren County.
Sign this petition and help send a clear message: Protect Warren County. Protect Front Royal. Protect the Shenandoah River.
Even King Charles III and Queen Camilla came to Front Royal and Shenandoah National Park this April to highlight the urgent need to protect our natural heritage, wildlife, and water resources.
Here's a great video about Front Royal, Virginia, and it shows how unique our community truly is.
