Release the Courage the Cowardly Dog soundtrack!
Release the Courage the Cowardly Dog soundtrack!
The Issue
Courage the Cowardly Dog is an animated Cartoon Network series that aired from 1999 to 2002. One of the most enchanting parts of the series was the original score, composed by Jody Gray and Andy Ezrin. According to Gray, each episode was scored from scratch and resulted in a unique cinematic feel that corresponded to the episode's plot. Over four seasons, the soundtrack was without a doubt a significant factor in the emotional appeal of the series, with memorable songs such as the harrowing main theme from The Tower of Dr. Zalost, the cacophonic King Ramses (The Man In Gauze), the haunting choir piece during the boat chase in Human Habitrail, and recognizable recurring pieces such as the "Crisis" theme.
Despite the impact this show and its score has left on those who watched it (and still watch it!), the soundtrack has never received an official release. The only available option for those who wish to relive the masterful music is YouTube uploads of episode snippets, often still obstructed with dialogue or sound effects. This has not deterred longtime fans of the series, as evidenced by the hundreds of thousands of views some of the previously linked videos have accumulated.
The goal of this petition is to show Warner Music Group (who, according to series creator John Dilworth, owns the rights to the soundtrack) that there is demand for the release of this score for fans past and present to enjoy. Not only would it allow for better appreciation of the incredible musical work of Gray and Ezrin, but it could also help renew interest in the original series streaming-wise. This would be a dream come true for longtime fans, and hopefully the possibility of the long overdue release of this music becomes a reality!
