The signers of this petition request that Warner Brothers and DC Comics immediately remove Joss Whedon from the current production of "Batgirl" and instead draft Gail Simone to write a new script for this project.

This petition has nothing to do with Mr. Whedon's overall ability, but rather with his treatment of female characters in past projects, both finished and undeveloped. We present as evidence Whedon's unproduced script for a Wonder Woman movie (https://indiegroundfilms.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/wonder-woman-aug7-07-joss-whedon.pdf). If this script had been chosen for WB's most recent superhero film, box office returns would have been a fraction of the current draw, critical reviews would be in the tank, and decades would pass before you would consider making another big-budget superhero movie with a female lead. Joss Whedon has proven quite capable when writing stories for male characters, but he lacks the perspective to bring the same depth to female characters.

You will find, by barely scratching the surface, a plethora of women writing for comics. If you want to re-create the success of "Wonder Woman," hire someone such as Simone to write "Batgirl."
