J. Michael Straczynski, The Great Maker, the creator and mastermind behind the cult show Babylon 5, recently revealed on his Twitter account (https://twitter.com/straczynski) something that we, the fans, have long thought impossible: Babylon 5 could be released in High Definition (1080p) without re-doing all CGI scenes. The following are quotes from The Great Maker's tweets:
But at the end of each season we were required to transfer all digital assets direct to film, frame by frame, so Warners could have a version that could be used across all later formats. That version, with pristine CG and live action, has never seen the light of day.
All you have to do is grab a 2k/frame negative, transfer it to a positive print, and you're already at 1080p which is already technically bluray level...any further enhancements would be lagniappe. But again, only in 4:3, not 16:9.
Amazon announced that Babylon 5 will be available for their Amazon Prime users to stream starting in June 2018. Despite the aspect ratio being limited to 4:3 fullscreen, we the fans ask, with great hope, that Amazon works with Warner Brothers to release the Babylon 5 as never seen before, in full HD glory. This would be something quite unique that Amazon could offer their Prime subscribers.
