Petition to Keep Brandon Routh on "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" as Ray Palmer/The Atom
The Issue
Upon hearing about Brandon Routh's departure from DC's Legends of Tomorrow I was devastated. Of the original cast, only three members remained, Brandon included. While other members have come and gone, including Nick Zano who portrays Nate Heywood--Ray Palmer's best friend, Brandon Routh's lovable, optimistic Ray Palmer has remained constant.
Following Amaya Jiwe's return to 1942, the team is at a loss and Ray even mentions to Charlie that Amaya was "kind of our moral compass" (S4:E3). Just as Amaya was the moral compass, Ray has been the group's spirit and heart. He refuses to give up, he is dedicated to doing what's right, and sees the best in people even when others can't. His departure from the Waverider will leave a gaping hole in the team, without a heart to guide them, and a spirit to push them.
Having heard the showrunners' opinions and explanation behind Ray Palmer's departure, I still disagree and believe this choice will be detrimental to the show. Brandon Routh is beloved by fans, and his portrayal as Ray Palmer is one of the highlights of the show. Without it, DC's Legends of Tomorrow will not be the same. Change can be good, but this change is not.
I urge fans to sign this petition so we can press the showrunners to undo this horrible mistake. Brandon Routh--Ray Palmer--belongs on the Waverider, and we must make this clear to those with the power to change.
