Choose Ethical Stars To Represent Harry Potter | No Place For Bullies

The Issue

Recently, we saw a wonderful initiative by Warner Bros. & Pottermore called Harry Potter At Home - some of our favourite actors like Daniel Radcliffe, Olivia Colman & Eddie Redmayne read Harry Potter chapters out to ease stress during lockdown. However, we saw one such face among these actors, who has no connection to HP & even though is a famous Bollywood actress, her part in this project makes zero sense. We are talking about Alia Bhatt - she can be seen reading chapter 8 but is, unfortunately, a public bully, who has gained stardom in Bollywood by nepotism. She has been caught on camera, publicly bullying the late actor, Sushant Singh Rajput, who died of suicide on 14th June 2020 in Mumbai. It has been reported & widely acknowledged that Sushant was suffering from depression & his suicide is seen as a concerted reaction to the Bollywood "insider lobby." His projects were blocked to give nepotism stars such as Alia Bhatt more recognition. The world of Harry Potter is beautiful, and as someone who has read & followed everything surrounding it since the age of 7, I feel it is not beneficial for our Harry Potter community to be read chapters to by an actress who is a bully. We have never seen her love or passion for Harry Potter anywhere, and additionally, she simply does not deserve this platform as it is evident that she got such an opportunity with the help of her family and professional contacts. This is simply wrong, and in no way inspiring for Harry Potter followers around the world. For our young followers, this is even dangerous as some might begin idolising Alia and/or her bullying ways, which are very prominent in videos all over the Internet. She is also someone who, at one time, did not remember the President of India's name, which was sheer ignorance & laziness in character. These values are not embodied by either Harry Potter fans or actors who have actually worked for Harry Potter films. Please remove her video of the chapter reading & take her off this project, as we are all trying to create spaces without bullying, hate speech & toxicity. Harry Potter world is that very space, and we cannot see it getting eroded by someone whose actions, in part, led to another's death.

We hope that this petition gets the serious attention it deserves. Many thanks for your support.
