Scooby Doo is a beloved children’s cartoon character who’s mystery solving exploits and legacy span nearly 50 years. He is a household name. But what name exactly? 

“Scooby Doo”, as we know him, is a nickname. A shortening of the highly uninspired “Scoobert Doo” as stated fully for the first time in 1988. Not only is this uninspired, as previously stated but it is grammatically and traditionally incorrect. Scoobert, with the suffix “Bert” would naturally be treated similar to Robert and be shortened to a name similar to Bob. And in “Scoobert’s” case? 

It would be Boob. His actual nickname would be Boob Doo. 

Not my Scooby. 

That is why I am petitioning for his name to officially be changed to the much more regal and dignified Scoobadias Doolittle. A name fit for a character of his stature. A name with weight. A name with staying power. A much better name than Boob Doo.
