Protect Historic Edwardsville Neighborhood from Inappropriate Development

Protect Historic Edwardsville Neighborhood from Inappropriate Development
The Issue
We are against development of the low-income, senior apartment complex that is proposed for the former Anna Henry Nursing Home site (637 Hillsboro Avenue). This complex will consist of two three-story buildings of 48 units, 14 of which will be Section 8 housing.
We do not believe the location of this development is appropriate for an established, historic single-family neighborhood due to its size and the impact it will have on property values, worsening of flooding issues in this area of Hillsboro and Chapman, and increased emergency services, traffic, light and noise pollution.
The elevation of this site will magnify the height of these buildings, causing them to tower over the surrounding single-family homes.
If the city approves this development, it will change the nature of our community of primarily owner-occupied homes. We believe the city should protect Edwardsville’s older neighborhoods as they are vulnerable to unsympathetic, inappropriate developments.
