Gauteng Government - Dinokeng Projects (Gauteng Tourism Authority) Tshwane-Ward 99- Reg 5
The Issue
We represent Dinokeng.co.za who markets Dinokeng as an awesome destination !
This petition is also in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Dinokeng Game Reserve ! (22 September, 2021)
However the 2 main artery roads, Hammanskraal and the De Wagensdrift/Hartebeesfontein are in a dismal condition, trashing not only cars, but caravans, trucks and buses alike, who uses these roads to get to the Dinokeng Game Reserve (DGR) and the rest of Greater Dinokeng area through Dinokeng Central, Roodeplaat and Cullinan Hubs.
The government has spent billions in the last 25 yrs, since 1995, towards and on the now morphed ‘Dinokeng Project’ (from NEGI to Amakulu and now Dinokeng). It is now a 28 000ha eco-tourist destination, which is to promote Dinokeng as a wonderful tourist destination, also as a means of job creation and to increase business turn over.
The condition of the roads not only impacts tourism in a negative way but also the people who own businesses and live in the area and surrounds.
We are currently collaborating with the Dinokeng Game Reserve (DGR), the Dinokeng Tourism Organization and the Diamond Chamber of Commerce and Travel Diaries #LeGoodLife which covers the Dinokeng region and the Tango / Yankee Sector Security and Fire Community Groups, who are all in agreement that government is not doing enough to ensure the safety of our travellers and is hampering the growth of tourism and businesses in Dinokeng.
The damage done to transport vehicles is incalculable but extreme, and costing everybody who uses these roads, one way or another, a serious amount of vehicle repairs.
Considering that the tourism industry is bleeding, Dinokeng has remained a preferred destination for the local market. We are aiming at becoming a “must visit” for international tourist when it does open up to them, however, the roads have a negative impact on all as many guests / visitors do not come back or refer to us, due to the state of the roads.
The De Wagendrift road was ‘upgraded” 3 years ago but as everybody is aware, it was a very bad job and most of the money disappeared. There was no follow up regarding this as far as we know from either the Dinokeng Project or the Gauteng Government’s side.
To date, the government last graded these roads more than a year ago, and which only took the good rains we had, to wash away most parts of said roads !!!!!
As we are aware, both are public roads, carrying very high traffic volume, which corrugates it in a matter of weeks, making it challenging to drive at a reasonable speed which damages vehicles regardless.
Our plea is to sign this petition for Government and Dinokeng Projects, to take this seriously, considering the billions in expenditure on creating this destination as well as the DGR. It is the only entity in Dinokeng that receives significant financial contributions to it’s success, and it now urgently needs to address this issue.
Please go to www.dinokeng.co.za to see venues and to download the latest map of Dinokeng showing over 120 awesome activities !
We hope that our Ward Councellor, Phuti KW, in charge of Tshwane Ward 99 - Region 5 can assist us in our endeavors. Please support her and us by signing this petition. As well as Mr Jacob Mamabolo (MEC Roads and Transport:) who has the mandate to make a difference.
We call for your help!
