Hi everyone,
We're extremely exited to share some GREAT news!
Googlers are definitely following OUR petition.
A few months ago, you might have heard that GoogleMaps was adding roadside hazard/debris-mapping when you're navigating from Point A to Point B. Here's our Twitter thread covering that announcement.
Since then, we've been testing this out, and it's excellent. As we've been urging in our petition, knowing just the location of hazards is extremely valuable.
The more people report debris/hazards, the more actionable the data. If enough people take time out of their day to report an incident, it may mean a given hazard is a pretty big deal.
Here's a quick rundown on what this tool does & doesn't do:
- does NOT ask you to *tag* debris
- does NOT ask you to *geolocate* debris
- does NOT ask you to *photograph* debris
- does NOT ask you how *urgent* the debris is
- simply tag what you're reporting & click confirm
- & go back to driving
- And this produces ACTIONABLE data.
This is a small step for Google, but a giant leap in waste/hazard-mapping. It's also clear validation of what our petition is trying to do.
If this data was not valuable, Google would NOT have added this tool.
We hope you share the great news. We're only 300 signatures away from our next goal.
Thank you,
CleanApp
