We are concerned residents of the Wandsworth borough. We demand the council urge OpenRent to end their continued discrimination against DSS claimants in the rental sector. The BBC and Shelter have done investigations which have found Open rent agency to be one of the worst offenders of discrimination. 

A search on OpenRent revealed of 810 adverts listed in Wandsworth, only 17% of these accepted DSS claimants, which is in line with the average for London and the UK more generally. The research that was conducted by Shelter showed that this is drastically lower than many of OpenRent’s competitors. 

This kind of discrimination can be incredibly damaging to peoples lives, leaving people trapped in unsuitable accommodation and in some cases leaving people homeless. It also disproportionately affects groups like women, ethnic minorities and disabled people. 

We would like to see the Wandsworth council put in place : 

•any landlord in the borough from being able to discriminate against DSS claimants 

•ban any letting agency from listing properties as ‘DSS not accepted’.
