Save The Community Pool at Waltham Forest College

On the 31st January 2020 The Community Pool in the basement of Waltham Forest College will close.

The closure of the pool will have a huge impact on local families; swimming clubs for both adults and children (Tritons; Gators; water polo clubs; triathletes); school swimming lessons; professional development courses (life guarding; swim teacher training); college employees and students.

The pool has supported generations of Walthamstow residents: my dad learnt to swim there; I swam there as a club swimmer; my daughter swims there now as a synchronised swimmer with Aquavision Synchro. Three of her team have places in the Great Britain junior synchro squad - two of these are local girls attending Walthamstow schools. The team have National Championships 2020 in the first weekend of March. The loss of the pool training facilities in two weeks time is having a huge impact on team training preparations.

We call on the Trustees of Waltham Forest College to cooperate with The Community Pool to:

1. Keep the pool open in order to give users (families; clubs; schools) time to find alternative swimming/training venues.

2. Facilitate a lease which will permit investment (already secured) in the pool. This will permit modernisation and development of a community asset.
