We, the signers of this petition,  state that we will not continue to attend or support West Texas A&M University under the administration of Walter Wendler. We, the students and signers of this petition, are calling for his immediate resignation.

We came to this decision based on a pattern of behavior that we feel has created an environment not conducive to learning, or student wellbeing. This pattern has been evident in numerous previous communications, but is exemplified by a school-wide E-Mail on March 20, 2023:

In said email, President Wendler:

1. 
   Denigrated and isolated student communities and groups, based on personal biases and beliefs.
2.  
   Discriminated against, and suppressed the freedom of expression of a group of students based solely on his own opinions about the moral rectitude of that expression. 
3. 
   Repeatedly utilized religious ideology and rhetoric to justify his statements and decisions at a publicly funded, state-run university.
4. 
   Employed logical fallacies, and showed a complete ineptitude at forming a consistent, fact based, logical argument.

While president Wendler is more than welcome to have his own private beliefs, he has no right or authority to censor the expression of others and official policy should not and cannot be governed by religiously motivated decision-making.  His display of blatant ignorance harms the university's academic integrity, and sets a terrible example for those President Wendler is supposed to lead. This is harmful to the growth of the student population, the academic culture of the college, and is an unacceptable burden for students already enrolled.

Due to the reasons outlined above, we, the signers of this petition feel that President Walter Wendler should step down immediately, for the good of the university, for the good of the student body, and for the continuation and preservation of the culture and legacy of West Texas A&M University.
