To whom it may concern,

A fringe group of Star Wars fans have been hating on the newest film in the Star Wars franchise, The Last Jedi. These ‘fans’ even had the nerve to make a petition to have The Last Jedi removed from Star Wars canon, although the man who created the petition has since taken a less extreme position on the matter. I’m making this petition for the fans who loved The Last Jedi, the majority of fans, the ones who always get overlooked. Not only did critics love the movie, and rightfully so, but 76% of fans, according to Google, also enjoyed the movie. The Last Jedi has also received 7.6/10 stars on IMDB at the point in time that this petition was written. What do fans love most about this particular Star Wars movie?   SPOILER ALERT   Essentially the whole damn thing! This movie takes risks! It has strong and diverse leads and characters that aren’t one dimensional. We understand these characters and our heart strings are tugged by their decisions. Luke is shown as imperfect but Master Yoda teaches him that imperfection is part of what being a good teacher is really about. Rey learns the true nature of the force by being brave enough to understand the dark side, yet intelligent enough to realize of the loneliness that the dark side offers. This is something that took Anakin his whole life to understand. Rey’s realization of this is beautiful and demonstrates what an incredible Jedi she is. Luke is AMAZING at the end of the movie when he fights Kylo Ren! The scene could not have been done better. From echoing Obi-Wan to showing Kylo how powerless he truly is in the face of hope, that scene may just be Luke’s greatest. The characters of this movie feel so real it’s truely a marvel that some of them are the same characters that we were introduced to in episode 7. Another beautiful thing that we got to see in the film was Fin’s eyes being opened to the truth of the wealthy and powerful in the galaxy as well as his falling in love with Rose. And don’t even get me started with how epic Leia (RIP Carrie Fisher) was throughout the movie, from using the force in space to being the spark for the rebels once again. These rich characters made this Star Wars movie one of my favorites (although I really do love them all), but what had an even stronger impact on me in this movie was the study of the force. A lot of Star Wars fans love the Stoic/Zen philosophies that are a part of the force. The chance to see some of the origins of the Jedi as well as some legendary parts of the galaxy where the force is in balance was amazing and something that I had always wanted from a Star Wars movie. In conclusion: I may not be the best writer and I’m certainly not the most qualified person to defend this movie but I loved it and I know that a lot of fans loved it too. There were a huge number of characters and plot points that I didn’t mention for the sake of time. I mean how awesome was the death of snoke!? And how cool is Poe!? This movie is a masterpiece in my opinion and I can’t thank all of the people who made it enough. The reason why I named this petition what I did is because Rian Johnson is the person who’s name was being defamed by the fringe group of fans that hated The Last Jedi. But the truth is that I want all of the people involved in the making of this movie to be allowed by Disney to keep doing what they’re doing. My ultimate hope is that Disney ignores the haters and continues with the fearless storytelling that was used in The Last Jedi as well as in Rogue One.

To the haters... you do not want to hate on this movie, you want to go home and rethink your life.

Help me Rian Johnson, you’re my only hope lol.

May the force be with you all!

Sincerely, an old hermit living in solitude on Tatooine.
