Monsanto's genetically engineered sweet corn is the first genetically engineered crop designed to go directly from the field to your plate, and its coming to a grocery store near you. Developed to actually produce pesticide and resist herbicides, it has not been tested for human safety, but it will be sold unlabeled on grocery store shelves around the country.
As the largest grocery store chain, Walmart will set the trend for other food retailers. By refusing to turn their customers into human guinea pigs by selling them untested GE sweet corn, grocery stores can take an important step forward in protecting Americans from genetically engineered foods.
Join us in asking Walmart to just say NO to Monsanto's genetically engineered sweet corn!
I am a consumer and I am writing to express my concern about Monsanto's genetically engineered sweet corn, which has recently been approved for human consumption. I strongly encourage you not to allow this potentially dangerous and unlabeled produce in your stores.
Monsanto's sweet corn has not been tested for human safety, even though it actually produces pesticides and resists herbicides. It is also the first GE corp approved for human consumption, potentially opening up the flood-gates for me such foods in the future. By rejecting these untested foods, you can take a strong, pro-consumer stance and refuse to turn its customers into guinea pigs.
Thank you for your time -- I look forward to hearing from you,
