While I would like to commend one of the fellow Walgreens employees for their outstanding job on going to the top with her petition, I must say I am disappointed.
As I read all that she is requesting is Harzard pay and paid family leave. There is no clause for protective gear, as I have been hearing from some employees they do not even have the basics of hand sanitizer.
At the rate this coronavirus is growing, if Walgreens does not supply all employees with the needed safety gear, including but not limited to safety glasses or drop down hoods, protective ppe uniforms, mask, gloves, sanitzer and biohazard drop containers. This includes every employee, warehouse, truckers, stockers, csa, technicians, pharmacist, shift leaders, and store management they will be forced to closed doors due to sickness, fear or death.
Did you know CDC, states that the virus can live on plastic (totes) for up to 48 hours, that means when deliveries are dropped at your store and you get a contaminated tote and you touch your eyes or mouth you are officially exposed. It stays on cardboard up to 24 hours. So while the extra pay will be needed possibly for you or a family members funeral, if Walgreens doesn't supply proper equipment the hazard pay is pointless.
There is also the time span between making these petitions and a resolution of an agreement between the two parties this could take months, nowhere does the petition asked the hazard pay to be retroactive.
I am demanding proper safety gear as outlined above, hazard pay, 21 sick days paid, and forget the 14 days , Walgreens is offering with additional days if you sign up for the short term disability, that is a joke trust me I used it all it did was benefit Walgreens.
I strongly urge you to think about what you just read and stand strong with all employees.
Sincerely,
Violet Clary
