Wakefield School to Re-Vote on Co-op Agreement

The Issue

The purpose of this petition is to ask the Wakefield School Board to hold a special meeting and re-vote on the motion to enter into an activities cooperative beginning in the 2020-2021 school year. This agreement includes Wakefield Community Schools, Emerson-Hubbard Public Schools and Allen Consolidated Schools. The cooperative name will be Quad County, Trailblazers, color scheme will be black, gold and charcoal.

As many know, the vote was considered a "no vote" or "fail" because of the 3-3 split vote.  This means that only half of the board of education in Wakefield do not think this is the best fit for us, while many patrons, community members, teachers and students do think the cooperative is a fit for us.  Emerson-Hubbard and Allen Consolidated schools both passed the motion with 6-0 votes.  In September, the Wakefield board voted 5-1 on passing the Co-op timeline and in a very small amount of time, after much effort and time put into the co-op; choosing a name/mascot/colors and having the students of each school vote, the motion at the October board meeting failed 3-3.  Students from all three schools were pretty much promised extra opportunities that the districts do not yet offer.

By signing this petition you are in support of the athletic cooperative including Allen Consolidated, Emerson-Hubbard, and Wakefield Community Schools and would like the Wakefield School Board to re-vote on the motion presented.
