Candice Baldwin started this petition to Wakefield council and

Mummy and daddy were trying for a baby for over 3 years and after having 2 miscarriages in 2019 and 2020, they finally get the best news that they were expecting again, baby Reggie was due on 10.10.2021, however, on 9.6.2021, Reggie Arther Clay was born, Reggie was born at 22 weeks and 3 days, pregnancy was going so well for his mummy but at the 20 week scan, we were told that mummy’s cervix had started to reduce drastically in size so she made the decision to have a stitch in her cervix. The specialist told us she had not done this procedure on a women who’s cervix were so low but she gave it her best shot and it worked for nine days.

Mummy started getting minor pains on 3.6.2021 and she went to hospital on 5.6.2021 to be checked and was told everything was fine and that she could go home. On 9.6.2021 mummy began having really bad pains and she rushed to hospital and was told she was in labour, baby Reggie was born just 30 minutes into getting into hospital.

Reggie was alive when he was born, he breathed on his own for over 3 hours, he was a fully formed baby, he had perfect ears, a beautiful little nose, massive hands and feet and a working heart, the hospital used a mask on Reggie 3 times but refused to do anymore for him because of his Gestation.

Pinderfields hospital only have a neonatal level 2 unit so they will only intervene if baby is over 27 weeks. Some of the criteria for them to do more were baby had to be over 500 grams, they weighed him after he died and he was 1 pound 1 ounce so he met this criteria, they said he needed to show signs of living, he was fighting for 3 hours so he met that criteria and they said due to his eyes fused they wouldn’t do anything more because they don’t have the right equipment, I had to watch my baby die when he could have been saved.

Pinderfields hospital is local hospital to tens of thousands of people, it covers a wide variety and they should have a neonatal level 3 unit where they will help babies from 22 weeks so no families have to go through what we have.

Our perfect baby boy was taken away from us and I imagine this has happened to many families and it’s not fair and Pinderfields policies need to change and they need to do everything they can for babies that are born alive!
