The Issue
Protect Brampton Homeowners: Stop the Unfair Real Estate Devaluation, High Insurance Costs, and Harmful Public Publicity
Petition for: Brampton City Council, Mayor Patrick Brown, and the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC)
What we ask:
We are the homeowners, families, and taxpayers of Brampton, and we are calling for immediate action to protect our hard-earned home equity.
Recent real estate data highlights a deeply concerning and growing gap between the property values in Brampton compared to neighbouring municipalities like Mississauga. While we take pride in our community, our investments are being systematically eroded by a perfect storm of skyrocketing home and auto insurance premiums, persistent negative publicity, and aggressive municipal enforcement strategies that target all homeowners instead of focusing solely on bad actors.
The Crisis Facing Brampton Homeowners:
Skyrocketing Insurance Premiums: Brampton residents consistently pay some of the highest auto and home insurance rates in Ontario. These inflated costs create an unfair financial penalty just for having a Brampton postal code, driving away potential buyers and suppressing local home values.
Damaging Public Publicity: Repeated negative media coverage has unfairly stigmatized Brampton as a high-risk area. This narrative disproportionately punishes the overwhelming majority of law-abiding, hard-working families who care for their properties and contribute positively to the city.
Broad-Brush Municipal Actions: While municipal enforcement is necessary to manage illegal rental units, current sweeping regulations and reactive policies create unnecessary friction for real estate transactions, scaring off buyers and casting a shadow over the entire local housing market.
As homeowners, we are watching our nest eggs shrink while our cost of living surges. A house is more than just a roof over our heads; for most of us, it is our primary life investment. We cannot stand by while institutional bias and local policy gaps actively devalue our properties.
We demand that the Municipality of Brampton and provincial authorities take the following actions:
Establish an Insurance Fairness Task Force: Work directly with the Insurance Bureau of Canada to investigate and eliminate postal-code discrimination that unfairly drives up home and auto premiums for Brampton residents.
Launch a Positive City Image Campaign: The city must actively counter negative media narratives with an aggressive public relations campaign highlighting Brampton’s massive economic growth, corporate investments, and family-centric neighborhoods.
Refine Municipal Enforcement: Transition from broad-brush enforcement tactics that complicate standard real estate listings to highly targeted, complaints-driven actions against true bad actors—protecting the market value of law-abiding homeowners.
Sign this petition to tell city hall and insurance regulators that Brampton homeowners demand fairness, respect, and the protection of our property values.

"Industry data from CREA and MyChoice confirms our reality: Southern Ontario home values are facing downward pressure, yet insurance companies are simultaneously hiking premiums by double digits. Compounded by aggressive local bylaws, Brampton homeowners are being squeezed from both sides—paying more to protect assets that the market is actively devaluing."
