Thank you to everyone for your support of this much needed, long overdue change.  Not only did Josephus Daniels name come off the middle school, but the statue of him in the center of town, across from the newspaper he founded and used to spread hate came down today as well.  Today was indeed "Bye, Josephus" Day.  Nothing can bring back the lives lost of the years in which this name was associated with hate and terror for African Americans.  But we can say goodbye to one more relic of the glorification of white supremacy and violence toward African Americans.

The Daniels family has indeed made positive contributions to the Raleigh community in the years since Josephus Daniels' death.  Now their contributions can stand in their own light, and not under the specter of the hateful violent legacy in his wake.  Thank you to everyone who supported!  It only takes a spark to get a fire going!  (Not sure who said that one)
