Victory! The Wake County School Board Voted Unanimously to Change the Name of Daniels Middle School
Jun 17, 2020 — In just three short days, what many said was a long shot got the green light, with the foot on the gas. This item was added to the school board's agenda, publicized in the local papers, and local television stations, and today, not only did the Daniels family remove the statue of Josephus Daniels from Raleigh's downtown Nash Square, but the School Board unanimously voted to change the name of the school from the name of a known white supremacist to that of the community built by freed slaves--in which it sits!! It's a small victory, but a major shift in hearts and minds.
I am hometown proud tonight! And proud of everyone who stepped up and demanded change! When we know better, we do better!
