Waive N2 Toll Off Ramp Fees at Port Shepstone during Umzimkulu Bridge Repairs

The Issue

On behalf of the residents of Tweni, we are appealing to the authorities to waive the N2 toll off ramp fees at Port Shepstone during the repair works of the Umzimkulu Bridge. Many Tweni families and employers are facing hardships due to this extra financial strain brought on by the need to regularly pay these toll fees, on top of having to endure a longer and inconvenient commute.

It is important to note that the Umzimkulu Bridge is a lifeline for our community, serving more than 10,000 vehicles per day (South African Department for Transport, 2018). Due to its closure for repairs, we are compelled to use the toll roads, which adds significant cost to our daily expenses.

A waiver during this period would greatly benefit us, reducing the financial burden during a time when our cost of living and commuting has significantly increased due to the rerouting. We understand the necessity for the repair works for the safety and convenience of all road users. However, residents should not have to shoulder this extra inconvenience and cost as a result.

We kindly ask the relevant authorities to consider waiving the N2 toll off ramp fees during the Umzimkulu Bridge repair period. We urge you to sign this petition in support of this waiver for the residents of Tweni. Your signature can help make a difference.
