We have obtained the Impound Registers from Wagga Council under GIPA. The image in this update is our summary of these Impound Registers for the holiday period of Christmas and New Year (a period of 10 days) for the last five years. No animals are entered into the Impound Register for the holiday period 25/12/16 - 3/1/17. Entries into the Register only commence upon the return of the Animal Welfare Supervisor. Yet in the previous years, the impound register has had entries during the holiday period. In the same period (10 days) prior to the 25/12/16 - 3/1/17 holiday period (15/12/16 - 24/12/16) - 18 cats and 16 dogs are entered. In the same period (10 days) after the 25/12/16 - 3/1/17 holiday period (4/1/17 - 13/1/17) - 26 cats and 18 dogs are entered. Does that mean that no animals came into GRAS in the 25/12/16 - 3/1/17 holiday period, a period of 10 days? - No animals were placed in the deposit pens? - No calls to pick up lost/stray dogs? - No dog attack dogs? - No calls from vet clinics to pick up/receive animals that have been handed in? In the 25/12/16 - 3/1/17 holiday period, GRAS was closed to members of the public but the deposit pens were open. It has been closed to members of the public during previous years. We have sent this information to Council. If we receive a response from Council, we will post it as an edit on this update. EDIT: Just to clarify, there were animals in the pound over the holiday period. The table on our update shows how many new animals came to GRAS just during the holiday period for the last 5 years, not how many animals were held at GRAS. The issue we have raised in this update is that we cannot understand why no new animals are entered on the Impound Register for the 10-day holiday period - this implies that no new animals came in to GRAS during the 10-day holiday period - we find this extraordinary. What we are asking is: did zero animals come in during this holiday period? Or did they come in but were not entered onto the Impound Register? When the holiday period finished, the register for 2017 commences.
