The Independent Review of Wagga Pound written by Dr Jacob Michelsen was released on 27th May. It supports a lot of what we and others have been bringing to Council's attention over the last few years. Dr Michelsen and Council agree that the requests in this petition are all reasonable. The review states "the challenges to be addressed in the day-to-day running and management of the shelter include the creation of a comprehensive procedures and protocols manual to allow staff training, standardisation of animal care and quality assurance procedures". Currently, much of the day-to-day functioning of the Shelter is not defined in a protocol or procedure. The review shows that staff have no formal animal management or handling qualifications, and suggests this should be a requirement when recruiting staff.
