Help Us Get Our Lake Back!

The Issue

As a young child in Delaware County, some of my fondest memories were the times spent fishing with my father along the banks of the Springton Reservoir. The time we spent together along this beautiful body of water instilled in me a lifelong love for fishing, as well a profound appreciation for nature.
Like many other Delaware County residents, I was deeply disappointed that Aqua America decided to shut down public access to the reservoir, a decision that has never been adequately explained to the thousands of us who enjoyed the unique recreational opportunities it offered. Respectful fisherman and other outdoor lovers are now harassed by Aqua America security personnel for engaging in activities they've enjoyed for decades.
As fellow citizens of Delaware County, I'm sure many of you also hold warm recollections of lazy summer days spent along the water's edge. It's ridiculous that we have to drive nearly an hour into Chester County to enjoy the same opportunities that can be found literally at our doorsteps. Many people such as myself would be willing to pay membership usage fees in order to defray any liability related costs, as well as monitor the lake to ensure its continued cleanliness.
I urge the relevant public and private stakeholders to consider the detrimental effects of the reservoir's public closure, and work together to create a comprehensive plan that would enable recreational users to responsibly enjoy the reservoir once again. With a bit of cooperation, Springton Reservoir can once again become the premier fishing destination in Delaware County.
