Drop the charges against Shanesha Taylor

The Issue

As a single divorced mother, I understand all too well the difficulty of trying to make sure that food is on the table, the water is running, the lights are on and I am raising a healthy, well adjusted young boy. God has blessed me with family and friends that help me when I need it and will always pick me up when I am down. This young woman did not seem to have the same support system backing her up. This is the Catch 22 our society has created. A young mother, trying to better her situation for her children and herself. She had nowhere to turn and no one to help and so she made a decision that could possible RUIN any chance she has to make sure her children have a normal life. There have been times where if I didn't I would have HAD to choose between my job and my child. It's easy to judge but just take a step back and think about how desperate she may have been. And also, look at the pain on her face. This is not a woman who looks to be cold and callous but a Mother that was forced to make a decision and unfortunately she made the wrong one. We have to do better about helping one another.

This is why I am urging the city of Scottsdale, Rep. David Schweikert and Mayor W.J. "Jim" Lane to drop these felony charges and show compassion. This woman is merely trying to make ends meet for her family and a permanent felony on her record will only prohibit that. The potential of her children being taken away from her and being bounced in and out of foster care is very high, thus creating a vicious cycle of instability and poverty.

Please join with me in sigining this petition and showing compassion where it is truly warranted. To read more about the case, click here
