I am a parent of a swimmer. The current board of commissioners for the Park District is moving to shut competitive swimming out of the only public indoor pool on the island. They are due to request continuing taxpayer support for the district by asking voters to pass a replacement levy in November. Let them know that we support the pool ONLY if the pool supports programs for ALL ages in the community, including the 6-17 year old set. No other programs at the pool are targeted to this age group, and without a swim team on the island, families with swimmers who are relocating to this area in the near future will choose to move to Fidalgo, Bellingham or Snohomish where the community pools support swim teams.
