A industrial solar farm is proposed to be constructed within 250 feet of my home and others in rural Streator, IL and is a pressing concern. This proximity poses significant negatives that need to be addressed. Solar farms, while green and clean, provide comparatively low-power output and can create disruptions in the aesthetics and serenity of neighborhoods. They can start fires, are noisy (including construction), and decrease property values. Furthermore, the electricity produced will largely be sold back to wider grids, not necessarily benefiting local residents in terms of energy or cost savings. The proposed locations of these projects seem to favor profit over the well being and interests of our community. Streator, known as "the quiet surprise on the prairie," deserves to maintain its integrity without unnecessary disruptions from installations that serve limited local value. We call upon the Plan Commission members and our mayor to reassess these proposed projects, ensuring that any development is in the genuine best interests of residents.
