We are asking the Rush Townboard to “opt out” of tax exemption for Solar as allowed by NYS Real Property Tax Law §  487!  This does not mean no solar is allowed in Rush!  It simply means, local governments (Town of Rush) can opt-out of RPTL § 487 (PILOT, Payment In Lieu Of Taxes) and then the Town can tax these multimillion-dollar solar projects and generate additional property tax revenue which will benefit the residents. Currently we have 4 massive industrial solar pre-applications in Rush.  And probably more to come. By “opting-out” fewer Solar companies will be knocking on everyone’s back door and only those that are viable will consider building in Rush!  These massive companies should pay their fair taxes to the Town of Rush just like we are all required to pay!  

Please sign our petition asking the Rush Town Board to opt-out of NYS Real Property Tax Law §  487.  This would be voting to collect appropriate property taxes from large solar companies! 

In Monroe County, the Towns of Chili, Ogden, Riga and Sweden have already opted out.  Additionally the school districts of Caledonia-Mumford, Churchville-Chili, East Irondequoit, Gates-Chili, Greece, Hilton, Honeoye Falls, Lima, Rush-Henrietta, Spencerport, Victor and Webster have already opted out.
