The Issue

For those of us who live in DeLand, FL, the NW corner of exit 118 on I-4 is more than just a location—it's the gateway to our community. When people drive into our town, this is where they get their first impression. Now, there is a proposal to build a large truck stop on this very spot, and it threatens to change our community's character dramatically.

Aside from being an eyesore, this truck stop will bring significant noise, pollution, and traffic congestion. Living close by, I am deeply concerned about how it will affect our daily lives. Think about the constant rumble of engines, the smell of exhaust, and the bright, invasive lights at night. This is not the peaceful neighborhood we know and love.

Moreover, the environmental impact could be devastating. The proposed location is near sensitive ecosystems that could be irreparably harmed by the increased pollution and waste associated with a truck stop of this magnitude. Local wildlife and vegetation are at risk, and we cannot allow this destruction to happen on our watch.

While we understand the need for amenities for truckers, a truck stop does not belong at our community’s entrance. There are alternative locations that could serve this purpose without degrading our living environment. We urge the county commission to look into these possibilities and vote NO to this truck stop proposal.

We must stand together as a community to protect our environment, our peace, and our way of life. Let's ensure that the entrance to DeLand remains a welcoming, clean, and quiet place for residents and visitors alike. Please sign this petition to urge the county commission to vote no to the proposed truck stop on exit 118. Let's preserve the integrity of our beloved DeLand.
