Vote NO on rezoning for commercial development on Grant Road

Vote NO on rezoning for commercial development on Grant Road
The Issue
We are petitioning the Grant-Valkaria Town Council to vote against;
Ordinance No. 2024-09
AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF GRANT-VALKARIA, BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA;
REZONING PROPERTY AS FOLLOWS: PARCEL ID: 29-37-34-00-286 AND 29-37-34-00-287
AND MORE PARTICULARLY DESCRIBED IN THIS ORDINANCE; FROM AU (AGRICULTURAL
RESIDENTIAL) TO BU-1-A (RESTRICTED NEIGHBORHOOD RETAIL COMMERCIAL);
PROVIDING FOR AMENDMENT OF THE OFFICIAL ZONING MAP; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE. (REZONING NO. Z-2024-04).
The Town of Grant-Valkaria will hold a public hearing at Town Hall 1449 Valkaria road, Thursday September 4th 2025 at 6pm sharp. I encourage everyone to attend that meeting to make your voices heard.
Last year we had a petition with 1000+ signatures against Rezoning this same Agricultural land to Commercial on Grant Road. I appreciate everyone who signed it and got friends and neighbors to sign too. We defeated this ordinance after a long hard fought battle from October to Feb 12th when we got it voted down successfully.
Now the town is holding a public hearing requested by the property owners to have a third vote on this issue to reconsider the denial of the rezoning request.
Any commercial development on Grant Road will go against the character of our town and our town charter. Rezoning Agricultural to "future use" commercial requires several qualifications;
- Community needs
- Growth projection
- Infrastructure Capacity
- Palm Bay must put a stop light at the intersection.
- Palm Bay must widen Babcock to 4 lanes.
- Palm Bay starts commercial development first on their side of Babcock which is all residential homes presently.
This rezoning does not meet future use qualifications. The area is currently a heavily forested wilderness with Gopher Tortoise, Scrub Jay, Sandhill Crane and other wild life.
The people of Grant Road live here because of its peaceful country lifestyle. Commercial development will cause a major increase of traffic on Grant road where we live.
Please sign our petition to send a clear message to the town council to vote against rezoning for commercial development on Grant road.
