Vote no against mega school in Vigo County
The Issue

In the heartland of Indiana, Vigo County, we are standing at a pivotal moment for our community and our children. The proposed construction of a mega school, a massive consolidation of our beloved neighborhood schools, threatens to dismantle the very fabric of our community's spirit. As a parent and lifelong resident, I have experienced firsthand the invaluable relationships and personalized education provided by our smaller schools, where teachers know students by name and families feel truly connected.
The allure of a mega school might come with promises of advanced facilities and potential budget savings, but at what cost? Studies have repeatedly shown that smaller schools offer numerous advantages—higher graduation rates, increased student participation in extracurricular activities, and stronger community ties. According to research by the National Education Policy Center, smaller schools foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity that large schools struggle to match.
Furthermore, the logistical challenges of transporting our children across greater distances will only add to our community's burden. Travel times will increase, impacting not just the children but families where parents juggle multiple jobs and have limited transportation options. The financial implications are also significant. New infrastructure and increased transportation costs will eventually outweigh any initial savings, leaving taxpayers with an unexpected financial strain.
Moreover, the environmental impact cannot be ignored. A single, large facility means more traffic, increased carbon emissions, and a greater ecological footprint, contributing negatively to our already fragile planet.
We have an opportunity to protect the integrity of our community-focused education system and resist a plan that does not serve the best interest of our children and our future. Our community is rich in diversity and tradition, elements best preserved through our existing smaller schools.
Join me in urging the Vigo County School Board and local officials to reconsider this plan. Prioritize our children's education, our community's health, and our environment's sustainability. Vote NO to the mega school proposal, and let's demand investments in enhancing our current schools instead.
Please sign this petition to stop the 'mega school' project and protect the heart of Vigo County's educational system. Together, we can build a future where our children thrive in schools that truly serve their needs and reflect our community's values.
