The Issue

As a proud and responsible owner of a wolfdog, I am deeply concerned and personally impacted by the proposed Ohio House Bill HR 676. This bill unfairly targets wolfdog owners, imposing regulations and conditions that are not only unjust but also misleading and unconstitutional.

The language used in the bill to define wolfdogs and hybrids is alarmingly vague and incorrect, creating confusion and stigmatization around these wonderful animals and their caretakers. This lack of clarity can lead to misidentification and unwarranted scrutiny on responsible owners like myself.

More disturbingly, certain sections of HR 676 violate our Fourth Amendment rights. By mandating that wolfdogs cannot be around visitors and requiring signs to be posted on properties where they reside, the bill infringes on the personal freedoms of pet owners and propagates unnecessary fear and discrimination against these animals.

Furthermore, the financial burden imposed by such regulation is unjust. The required dog tags and insurance are excessively priced, adding unnecessary financial strain on owners, especially when the law itself fails to provide clear guidelines or justifications for these costs.

Wolfdogs, like any other domestic animals, deserve fair treatment under the law, and their owners should not be punished through ambiguous language and unconstitutional demands. Our lawmakers must prioritize clear, fair, and reasonable regulation, rooted in respect for constitutional rights and understanding of these unique animals, rather than succumb to fear-based policymaking.

I call on legislators and community leaders to vote down Ohio House Bill HR 676, and instead, engage with experts, owners, and advocates to craft policies that genuinely reflect the wellbeing of our community, respecting both people’s rights and the individual needs of hybrid animals.

Please join me in raising your voice against this bill. Sign this petition to protect wolfdog owners, promote accurate understanding, and uphold our constitutional rights.
